Among the changes in xrpld 3.4.0 is an adjustment to online deletion of historical data. When a node has gaps in its recent history, deletion is paused so that it has a better chance to remain current.
This mechanism concerns server operations rather than XRP's economic consensus. It aims to prevent a local database-cleanup policy from worsening a situation in which the node already needs to catch up on recent data.
This kind of fix is discreet but important for operational resilience. The quality of a public network depends not only on features visible to users, but also on how its nodes behave in degraded conditions.
