Native lending and credit on XRPL: LendingProtocolV1_1's impact

2026-09-26

LendingProtocolV1_1 extends XRPL's lending capabilities with fixed-term vaults and cash-basis accounting, enhancing structured onchain credit for institutional finance use cases.

Event: 16 September 2026

LendingProtocolV1_1 is one of the main additions proposed with xrpld 3.4.0. It extends the credit architecture already introduced around Single Asset Vaults and the Lending Protocol.

Two changes stand out: fixed-term closed vaults and cash-basis accounting. The technical aim is to give onchain credit products more structure, with parameters closer to some institutional requirements.

This does not mean the XRP Ledger becomes a bank or that onchain credit is risk-free. Credit risk, intermediary quality, vault parameters, liquidity and regulatory constraints remain decisive. A protocol-level primitive provides infrastructure; adoption then depends on applications, users and the legal framework.

For the XRP ecosystem, the key question is whether this infrastructure attracts real, durable credit use rather than measuring success by code availability alone.
